Smoke Alarm Compliance
Interconnected photoelectric alarms — compliant before the 2027 deadline.
What's included
- Assessment of your current smoke alarms against QLD legislation
- Supply and installation of interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms
- Correct alarm placement in every bedroom, hallway and level
- Hardwired or 10-year lithium battery alarm options
- Removal and disposal of old, non-compliant alarms
- Compliance documentation for your records

Queensland legislation requires interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in every dwelling by 1 January 2027. Homes that have been sold or leased have already needed to comply since 2022 — the 2027 deadline extends that requirement to every remaining owner-occupied home in the state.
Interconnected means that when one alarm detects smoke, every alarm in the property sounds — critical for waking occupants in bedrooms away from the source. Photoelectric alarms are also required because they respond faster than older ionisation alarms to smouldering, smoky fires, which are the more common cause of house fire deaths.
We assess your current alarms, quote the work up front, and install a fully compliant, interconnected system — whether that's a straightforward retrofit or a system covering a larger or multi-level home.
Frequently asked questions
What's the deadline for smoke alarm compliance in Queensland?
Every Queensland dwelling must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms by 1 January 2027. Homes that are sold or leased have already been required to comply since 2022.
Do all my smoke alarms need to be hardwired?
No — the legislation allows hardwired alarms or 10-year non-removable lithium battery alarms, as long as they're photoelectric and interconnected. We'll help you choose the right option for your property.
Can you handle smoke alarm compliance for a rental or unit I'm selling?
Yes — this is one of our most common jobs for landlords, property managers and homeowners preparing to sell.
